About the Wayland Chamber of Commerce

The Watton & District Chamber of Trade was formed in 1955 and the title was expanded to include the '& Commerce' in the 1980s. The name was changed in 1999 from 'Watton & District' to 'Wayland' to accord with our status in the Wayland Partnership Development Trust and was changed again in 2008 to the Wayland Chamber of Commerce. There are currently 170 business and associated members of the Chamber.

The aims of the Chamber are to:

  • Promote local business
  • Represent and look after business interests
  • Help and inform traders on business matters
  • Work in, with and for the local community

In 1994, the Chamber won the "Best Small Chamber" award in a one-off national competition. We are associated with the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce & Industry and thus linked with the British Chambers of Commerce.

The Chamber takes an interest in all aspects of government and legislation, from local through to national level, to ensure that the principles of free and fair trading are pursued for all business and commercial interests, whether the self-employed, the smallest business or the largest company. At a local level, the Chamber can give initial & general advice on such matters as planning, rates, compliance and local custom. At the same time, Chamber activities are designed to promote and stimulate local ambience.

Anyone active in business should consider the potential benefits of membership of the Chamber, the basic cost of which is little more than 50 pence per week! Membership of the Wayland Chamber is open to all individual persons, firms and companies interested or actively engaged in business in Wayland. The viability and future of our area depends upon strong and effective partnerships between the public authorities, private businesses and the voluntary sector. Wise business persons recognize the importance of giving support to the community - the very community that provides the customers on which most local businesses depend!
