George Freeman MP meets Chamber Members at Business Breakfast

The theme of this morning’s Business Breakfast was ‘Business Finance’.

After breakfast, Mary-Anne Sargeant of M+A Partners started the formal part of the morning by advising delegates about ‘5 Key Points to Save Tax’, which included tips on various VAT schemes and suggested that smaller businesses might like to investigate whether they might be better off trading as Sole Traders rather than Limited Companies at the present time.

Sandra Kerridge of NatWest Bank talked about the history of banking and the problems over recent years. She then relayed how banks are changing the way that they work; keen to be more responsible to their clients, looking more carefully at business plans, projections, profits and overheads but also at the personal outgoings of business owners to ensure affordability when lending money. She answered a raft of questions from delegates which included feedback on the lack of a presence in the High Street for NatWest in Watton

Chamber Chairman, Norman Wilson, updated members on Chamber initiatives and partnership working and introduced members of the new Town Team who will be working to keep our High Street vibrant. The Town Team will be running an ‘Entrepreneur’s Market’ on the High Street on 19th May. The Business Benefit event will be running from 4-7 pm on Wednesday 13th June at Wayland House.

Norman was delighted to introduce George Freeman MP who addressed the meeting. George emphasised his passion for the rural economy, and particularly that of Norfolk with its rich history of agriculture and its continuing place on the world stage in agricultural science and technology. He also talked about the myriad of entrepreneurial businesses which are trading from home or close to home in the County. He went on to discuss the local infrastructure and was pleased to have heard at this meeting that knowledge of various initiatives is filtering through to Watton.

This event was kindly sponsored by M+A Partners.
