Chairman's Message

31st March 2010

Like many Wayland businesses and organisations, the Chamber last year felt the effects of the economic downturn. Initially we saw an increase in non-renewal of members and at the beginning of the year a reduction in the number of new memberships. The Chamber recognised that the non-renewal of membership and falling numbers were because local business were clearly tightening their financial belts and did not see being a Member as value for money. In order to respond to this, and the changing needs of Wayland Business, the Chamber took stock of its role and sought ways to adapt in order to ensure, during the difficult times and in the continuing good times ahead, we provide opportunities to Wayland Business to make it easier to network, to ensure we provide information to Business which will be of a benefit and that we are more approachable to ensure your voice is heard.

Our action has now seen a steady rise in membership - again showing change can be good.
On 26th April 2010 the Chamber launches its quarterly Breakfast Business Forum, providing members with an opportunity to network, become an exhibitor or guest speaker. For those early birds breakfast will be provided by us. We will also have an informative speaker at each event covering topics such as securing training needs, advice on available grants, and helping to expand your networking circle.

Our role as a Chamber of Commerce includes meeting the wants and needs of the Business Community. This year we have proved we have listened and adapted accordingly. We will be re-launching our website later on in the year to provide a professional forum for your business to be listed. It will provide news on information which is relevant to local business, keep you updated on local events, provide details of member to member benefits and keep you abreast of national and international links we have formed. Further, through the website, we will provide a clear contact facility for you approach us.

The Wayland business community consists of business on the high street, on our surrounding industrial estates, in homes and also village business. Wayland Chamber of Commerce Committee Members comprise of individuals with a wealth of local and business experience, who give up their time voluntarily for the benefit of the business community. We want to be the voice for you and a support to you - all you have to do is let us!

I am proud to be a part of the Wayland Business Community and hope that you will join me throughout the forthcoming year to support local business also.
